Proponents of financial astrology argue that it should not be ignored, if for no other reason than for its prevalence. Writing in 1996 Weingarten noted that “currently, over $14,000,000,000 in the United States and Europe follow the stars,” and warned his readers that “someday soon astrology was going to become a factor in the market, simply because so many people believe in it, and inevitably that would influence money flows.”97 This is certainly true—as far as it goes. But this is merely the argument that astrology might introduce exploitable inefficiencies into the market simply by dint of rendering predictable the decision-making behavior of some people; it says nothing in favor of astrology’s inherent predictive value.
